'M2M' History:
BiographyM2M was a Norwegian pop music duo comprised of two girls - Marion Elise Raven and Marit Elisabeth Larsen. The duo released albums under Atlantic Records and Warner Music. The duo produced 2 albums, Shades of Purple and The Big Room, and a "Greatest Hits" release (after M2M disbanded, under decision of their record label) under the band name M2M, and a Norwegian Children's album under their respective names (informally "Hubba Bubba"). The girls had known each other since they were five, before forming the group in the mid-1990s. The group debuted with their first single, "Don't Say You Love Me", in 1999. The song was featured on the soundtrack of Pokémon: The First Movie and a music video was produced with them at a drive-in theater spliced with scenes from the movie. The song was also the lead single off their debut album, Shades of Purple, released in 2000. They released four more singles off the album: "Mirror Mirror", "The Day You Went Away", "Pretty Boy" and "Everything You Do". The album debuted at number one in Norway and several Asian countries and in the Top Forty in most other countries. The single also reached the number 1 position on the "Billboard Heatseakers" chart for developing artists. The album went on to sell over five million copies worldwide. Their trilingualism made them popular in Asia (especially in the Philippines, where they are most popular[citation needed]) as they released several songs sung in Mandarin such as "Pretty Boy". However, they did not record a Mandarin version of their hit "The Day You Went Away"; Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang recorded her own version instead. In 2002, the duo returned with a more mature, less pop-oriented sound with their second album, The Big Room. In two years, their voices had changed, especially Marion's. The first single off the album was "Everything" followed by "What You Do About Me." They would not release a third single. In 2002, while on tour with Jewel, M2M was dropped by Atlantic Records, who cited a lack of record sales, although the album did do well in Norway, Asia, and Australia. Marion was later offered a new contract and released her first album, Here I Am, in June 2005. Marit attended the University of Oslo during her hiatus and released her solo debut album, Under the Surface, in March 2006. On March 31, 2006, it became official that, in less than a month, Larsen's album became a certified gold record after selling over 20,000 copies in Norway. Since launching their solo careers, both members have reached #1 on the Norwegian singles chart - Marit for "Don't Save Me" and Marion (alongside Meat Loaf) for "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" - something that was never accomplished by M2M as a duo. source: Wikipedia |
