Gackt was first introduced to music at the age of three when his parents had him start to learn the piano. He took both piano and vocal lessons unwillingly until jr. high, when he finally started to enjoy learning music. At the age of fifeteen, Gackt began to play the drums. Through hard work and encouragement from his music teacher, Gackt became extremely good at the drums. Very soon rumors started to spread and Gackt began receiving invitations from several rock bands. Finally he took up a offer from the band Cain’s Feel. During his time with the band, their main vocalist left. Gackt took his place as vocalist. It was also around this time that Gackt began to write his own songs. Gackt later joined the group Malice Mizer. In November 1998, Gackt shocked many fans when he disappeared and officially left Malice Mizer a month later. Gackt left to LA to start his solo career. 10 months later, Gackt came back to Japan and debuted with his mini album Mizerable.
Early in the new millenium, Gackt branched out into acting in addition to his music career. He has starred in a number of dramas like Moon Child and Fuurin Kazan. He has also done voice acting for the Final Fantasy VII video games, Bujingai video game, Arthur and the Minimoys, Hero’s Hero, and New Fist of the North Star. Moreover, he also plays in the band S.K.I.N, which was formed by X-Japan co-founder Yoshiki! As if that weren’t enough, he has also written an autobiography called "Jihaku"!
